WhatsApp announces it will be free for everyone

A good news for WhatsApp users. The company has announced that it is going to drop its Annual Subscription fee completely free for its users across the world. It will be implemented within the next few weeks. For many years, WhatsApp asked some of its users to pay an annual fee for using the service after the first year of use however, this approach has not worked well.

WhatsApp said on its official blog that nearly a billion people around the world use WhatsApp service to stay in touch with their family and friends. A number of  WhatsApp users are without a credit or debit card across countries. Hence, the company will no longer charge subscription fees.  Here, it is interesting to know that the company did not charge Indian users for using the service. In fact, India is one of the biggest markets for the WhatsApp service.

WhatsApp blog post said, “Naturally, people might wonder how we plan to keep WhatsApp running without subscription fees and if today’s announcement means we are introducing third-party advertisements. The answer is no”. The company further added, “We will test tools that allow you to use WhatsApp to communicate with businesses and organisations that you want to hear from”.
